They both are getting good with their Karate and have been upgraded to the Yellow belts. The group now changed to Yellow yellers, initiated by Feer. I don’t want to wipe away their strength and skill by letting them just concentrate on the gadgets, phone, laptop, game etc.
I did ask, is there any instrument that you guys interested with ? this is part of my plan to deviate their focus from the gadgets. My mind weighing with zillion of worries about their future. I believe it’s same with other mom in the universe. Feer academic is not so encouraging at this instant. This is the effect of too much MCs during his sick years. Azim too small to judge even though he has performed in his kindergarten.
Back to my question to them, at first, both can’t give any answer. Then I suggested, how about guitar or violin. I was thinking to get variety of music instruments… should be fun if we were to combine. Typical mom ! We can go to the class you if guys wanted, I said. The feedback from them were so good, both of them interested to go for guitar. Err… no multiple music ka. By the way, tak kisah la.
But me as a mother so slow in getting action, trying to find near class, easy for transportation etc. and of course the cheapest fees…. hahaha mama is mama.
Mak Yang (my sister) generously given them her old guiter, I don’t know it belongs to either Abang Aiez or Hanif. It’s quite an old guitar but it’s good already. At the same time Kak Ili came to my mind and as she’s giving home tuition to them on the academic lesson. With Kak Ili help, Feer and Azim were introduced to some of the simple chords. Ops.. to introduce, Kak Ili is a song writer. She’s learning guitar through youtube and later upgraded herself to the proper class. She’s also a performer for her UNI. Kembang hidung sambil tulis ni. She’s my niece.
Opss.. before I continue, I also have approached Aiez my nephew if he can give them guitar lesson. But he’s no confident to teach. Anip, also I can say a guitar performer too, Anip is the elder brother. But, without asking him, I know he’s busy with work and Futsal.
For me as a mother who look their progress (sadlly weekly or during school holidays only.. in other entry I’ll tell about this) can say that, the interested and spirit are there. Just to work a bit hard to ignore all the gadget distractions.
So.. to cut it short, 2 months school holiday passed without a proper music class. Kak Ili’s class has over. She just took a few minutes during academic teaching.
Yesterday, 7th Jan 2018. We went to guitar trial class at Setapak. I got it through from Mr. Google, I didn’t do so much of research as I really want to get them an immediate class.
The moment the reception introduced us to the teacher, he looked at us gave a cynical smile. Looked at Azim and Feer alternately.
Then he said, hmmm music instrument is actually something not all the people can bring without interest.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.. I felt like was been underestimated.
But then he said, come let have a trial, mama you come too.
So, we went to a little room equipped with 3 big guitars in different sizes, also there are 2 ukuleles.
Later I get to know you ok.. how old are you ? he asked.
There are 14 and 7, I replied.
He looked at the kids and laugh.. what ? you are not given vitamin or what ?
Omg, seriously.. I was hurt. Then continued, I’m 44 this year. Proudly telling people my age, which I really don't like to do.
And he like… Ohhhh… how about the daddy. Is he big size or small.. ? the teacher continued
He’s big. I replied.
And then bla blaa.. he’s talking about a right people size for the music instrument. I felt lilke he’s telling that my kids were too small to hold the guitar and Azim looked so playful while Feer was not in confident look. Ahhaha.. kitorang memang biasa2 je… people will never impress with us on the first look. Alah.. apa la sangat benda tu... deep down... Allah know.
Ok let see whether they can follow instructions. I know he pointed to Azim and Azim looked so attached to Feer that time. Yes, I want them that way. Both of them attached among themselves.
He then took 2 ukeleles and gave to them each, asked both of them to follow the chords that he showed.
Feer doing it with no problem because he used to play the guitar before while Azim trying to fit into the situation but managed at very short moment. I was watching them, smile. Whatever they’re doing as long it’s good, they’ll get my support and encouragement. I know the feeling when the parent don’t support and no encouragements on the things that we like to do. I like taekwondo and drawing… but I can’t pursue both………. Ok this is another story.
So.. back to the story.
They managed follow and follow… they’re doing some simple songs like hari raya and jingle bell.
And finally………. The teacher said.. I’m so sorry for underestimate you guys. I’m sorry mam for underestimate you all.
They are good and intelligent… suddenly I feel so proud nak nangis. Padahal bukannya diorang on the stage performing pun. Or maybe I feel I found something that can give them extra things.
OMG.. those years.. I got third place in Taekwondo competition, representing sekolah-sekolah Seremban Barat. But my parent don’t say anything..
Btw, we went back with smiles.. both of them so happy and my promise is to get Azim an ukulele.
